Bead & Button Show 2017, update

I'm really happy to tell you that the Phoenix Feathers Lariat class was selling almost at speed of light.
And I'm even happier to announce, I was able to add another session of this class!

Same procedure as every year...

Can you guess it?  Yes, of course, I'm talking about the Bead & Button Show 2017! Online browsing has begun already last week and you can book the classes already on January, 3, noon CST! So, I will try to cut out some me-time this weekend and browse through the class catalog. I already have some favorites :-)

And yes,  again this year, the class I submitted was accepted and I am happy to teach at this big event!

B170230 Phoenix Feathers lariat, starring feathery tassels studded with hundreds of 2 mm fire polished beads. Main stitches are a variation of St. Petersburg stitch and dimensional RAW.
A full day class, on Tuesday, June 6, 9:00 to 16:00

The class catalog shows the bronze/gold colorway, here I want to show you the silver/light vitrail version.

Oh Tannenbaum, mein Tannenbaum!

Es ist wieder soweit, das Jahr geht zu Ende und wir stecken vermutlich alle mitten in den letzten Festvorbereitungen. Auch dieses Jahr möchte ich euch mit einem kleinen Freebie überraschen. Wer noch keinen Baum hat, kann sich vielleicht noch einen perlen :-)

It is that time again, the year rushes towards it's end and we are probably all hustling around with preps for the holiday season. As every year I want to surprise you with a little freebie. And if you did not manage to get yourself a tree, maybe you can bead one :-)

Ich habe kürzlich im Gartencenter einen Monkey Puzzle Tree (Araucaria)  gesehen und mir sofort gedacht: DAS kann ich perlen!

Recently I discovered a monkey puzzle tree (araucaria) in my local garden center and immediately thought: I can do that in beads!

Die Idee ließ sich dann mit Twisted Herringbone und Dragon Scale Perlen auch prima umsetzen. Sieht doch fast so aus, oder?

The idea worked out really nice in twisted Herringbone with Dragon Scale beads. Almost like twins from a different mother, ha?

Beim ersten Testmodell war ich noch vorsichtig und habe nur den vorderen Teil der Kette bestachelt. Kratzt aber gar nicht!

Making the first test necklace I only dragon-ed the front part. But it turned out to not feel scratchy to the skin at all!

Die zweite Kette ist komplett mit Dragon Scales besetzt und ich hatte tatsächlich zufällig auch den perfekten Verschluss in einer meiner Schatzkistchen. Wo ich doch Drachen so liebe!
Update: Habe mich inzwischen auch an den Shop erinnert, wo er her war: Saki Silver

So, of course the next necklace was completely covered in crystal blue rainbow scales. And then I discovered the perfect clasp in one of my treasure boxes! I absolutely love dragons!

Die (vorläufig) letzte Kette habe ich an einem trüben und fiesen Novembertag gestartet, da war mir nach Farbe. Jeder der 3 Stiche in der Runde bekam eine eigene Delica-Farbe. Dafür sind dann die Dragon Scales nur die Lariat-Enden hochgekrabbelt.

I started the last (for now) necklace on a cold and dreary November day and was really, really craving some color. So I used a different Delica color for each of the 3 stitches of one round. But I only dipped the ends of the lariat into the Dragon Scales.

Perl noch ene mit...

Als ausgewiesene Karnevalsallergikerin verbringe ich diese Wochenende damit, mich für den Kurs am nächsten Samstag bei Creanon vorzubereiten. Es gibt "Love Potion No. 9" und ich habe eine neue Farbkombi ausprobiert, rein zufällig in "rut un wieß"!
This weekend is dedicated to carnival here in Germany, something I am not really fond of. Instead I spent some time with preparations for a workshop next Saturday at Creanon. I will be teaching "Love Potion No. 9", a class I will also offer in June at Bead & Button Show.
The new color combo is red and white with antique gold, the heraldic colors of Cologne.

Ich bin ganz angetan davon, wie hübsch das rauskam und werde auf alle Fälle einige Kits auch in diesen Farben zusammenbauen.
I was quite pleased how well this combination worked and will add this colorway to my kit list.

Und dann wollte ich noch testen, ob sich die kürzlich ergatterten Klarglaskugeln für das Muster auch eignen.
And then I wanted to test if the clear glass globes I found recently would also work in this design.

Tja, was soll ich sagen. Grundsätzlich ja. Allerdings gingen dann die Pferde mit mir durch und das Teil mutierte zum Zauberstab! Jetzt muss ich nur noch die Lurchaugen und Drachenzungen finden, um den Startzauber zu kochen :-)
Well, what can I say. Yes, they do. But I got distracted a bit and the little bottle morphed into a magic wand! Now I just have to find my newt eyes and dragon tongues to brew a magic potion to start it :-)

Guess what I will do tonight...

Aaahhh, finally! It is December 15, 2015 and today the online class browsing for Bead & Button Show 2016  begins. There have been reports on Facebook of sightings of the print catalog, but it usually takes a bit more time until they reach Europe.

So, tonight I will shut down my phone, select some nice music, get me a lovely cup of tea and maybe some cookies and cuddle on my comfy couch with a blanket and a fully charged tablet. I'm really curious to see which classes and workshops the B&B team has selected for next year. And I am very happy and proud they also accepted the two classes I submitted. Wanna see? Ok!

dieses Jahr habe ich euch echt sträflich vernachlässigt. Wenigstens habe ich eine einigermaßen gute Entschuldigung. Ich bin nämlich umgezogen, was mich viel Zeit und Nerven gekostet hat. Aber jetzt ist alles wieder schön .
Ich bedanke mich ganz herzlich bei allen, die mir trotzdem die Treue gehalten haben und ich hoffe, ich finde im nächsten Jahr wieder mehr Zeit für meine geliebten Perlen und alles, was so damit zusammenhängt

Dear blog reader,
last year I really neglected you, I am so sorry! But at least I have a quite good excuse. I moved into a new apartment, which cost me a lot of time and nerves. Meanwhile everything is fixed, so I can go on with my usual life.
A big "Thank you" to all of you that stuck with me nevertheless and I hope next year I will find more time to spend with beading all the stuff I love to do so much.

Ich habe natürlich auch nicht das traditionelle Weihnachts-Freebie vergessen. Das gibt es dieses Jahr schon ein wenig früher, dann könnt ihr euch evtl. noch vor den Feiertagen mit entsprechendem Material eindecken :-)

Kursprogramm, die Erste!

Wie ihr vielleicht schon gesehen habt, gibt es mich demnächst auch in Dortmund :-)
Kommenden Herbst werde ich drei Kurse bei Perle und Kunst geben. Claudia Adämmer und ich haben extra die Sonntagstermine ausgesucht. Sie hat mir auch versprochen, es gibt Kuchen. Na, wenn das kein stechendes Argument ist! Ich freue mich auf alle Fälle schon.

Die genauen Termine sehr ihr im Seitenbalken rechts oder direkt auf der Homepage von Perle und Kunst. Ich würde mich freuen, euch da zu sehen!

RAW-mantic Lace, ein Armband in flachem und cubic RAW, dekoriert mit glitzernden Roses montées.

Not a Knot, ein Collier mit einem verzwickt verdrehten Peyote-Anhänger und einer passenden Kette in tubular und twisted Herringbone.

Sparkle on Grille, noch ein Collier  Wir fädeln Cubic RAW auf die etwas andere Art und verbinden dann die Einzelteile im Chain Maille-Style. Dann hängen wir so viele Glitzerlinge an, wie es euch gefällt! Die einzelnen Elemente lassen sich natürlich auch in einem Armband oder in Ohrringen verwenden.

Pandoritos

In der letzten Zeit habe ich immer wieder mit diesen Ringeln gespielt. Man kann sie in vielen Variationen fädeln, mit verschiedenen Akzentperlen und in verschiedenen Größen.

 

Recently I have been playing with those little ringlets. You can make them in many variations, with different accent beads and in different sizes.

 

Zum  Beispiel mit Glasschliffperlen auf Stacheldraht (ist natürlich aus Leder :-) )

For example with fire polished beads on (fake) barbed wire

Oder mit Rundperlen und Bicones auf einem gekauften Modularmband für Großlochperlen

Or with round beads and bicones on a bracelet for big hole beads

Oder mit winzigen 2 mm-Kristallen auf einem selbstgefädelten Herringbone-Armband.
Mir macht's Spaß, ich glaube, da müssen noch mehr her :-)

Man kann Ohrringe damit machen oder auch einen Anhänger (in dem ist unten übrigens so eine richtig fette 18 mm-Rondelle. Das glitzert mächtig !)
You can bead lovely earrings or scale it up and make a pendant (which sports one of those big 18 mm crystal rondelles. Mucho sparkle, I can tell you!) 

In Dortmund habe ich Anleitungen und Kits dabei, im Etsy-Shop dauert es noch eine Woche oder so, ich habe die englische Übersetzung noch nicht fertig :-)
In Dortmund  I can offer tutorials and kits. I am sorry, the Etsy shop has to wait a bit longer,  I did not find the time to finish the English trasnslation. But I am working on it :-)

Spooky Spikes

Ach ja, eigentlich… eigentlich sollte diese Kette ganz anders aussehen. Aber, wie so oft, die Perlchen haben ihren eigenen Kopf und nun hat sie einen etwas Morticia-Addams-artigen Look.  Passt ja zur Jahreszeit. Happy Halloween! :-)

This necklace started out with a whole different intention. But sometimes the beads have their own will and it ended up with a somehow Morticia-Addams-ish look. Matches the season. Happy Halloween! :-)

Und wer gaaanz genau hinguckt, kann im Inneren der Blütenknospen sogar (Baby-) Spikes erkennen.

And if you take a really close look at the little buds you can even find some (baby) spikes in the middle.

Night at the Opera, mit Zugabe

Na sowas, da gibt es glatt noch Stücke aus der "Milwaukee 2010"-Session, die ich noch nicht gezeigt habe. Wie hier z.B. das Armband "Night at the Opera" von Jill Wiseman, in das ich mich sofort verliebt hatte. Das Armband war natürlich längst fertig, aber ich wollte noch eine passende Kette dazu haben. Ich habe länger drüber gegrübelt und bin dann letzendlich statt Herringbone bei Häkelschläuchen gelandet.

Oops, I noticed there are some pieces from the "Milwaukee 2010" series I did not show here. Like the "Night at the Opera" bracelet by Jill Wiseman. I had fallen in love with this design at first glance. The bracelet was already finished some months ago, but I also wanted to have a matching necklace. After some test drives I ended up with bead crochet ropes and square stitch sliders similar to those used with the bracelet.

In der Zwischenzeit hatte ich das Armband mehrere Male getragen und leider festgestellt, dass der wunderschöne Toggle-Verschluss öfter mit meiner Schreibtischplatte kollidierte. Ich hatte echt die Befürchtung, er könnte kaputtgehen. Daraufhin wurde er schweren Herzens abmontiert und gegen einen herkömmlichen Schiebeverschluss ausgetauscht. Jetzt kommen die tollen Glitzer-Schieberlinge auf der Oberseite auch viel besser zur Geltung. Und der Toggle fand ein neues Zuhause in der Kette. Und sie lebten glücklich bis an ihr Ende...

Meanwhile I had been wearing the bracelet several times and sadly the lovely toggle clasp had some heavy collisions with my desk. I really was fearing for his life! So I finally decided to exchange it with a metal clasp. Ok, now the also gorgeous sliders on the bracelet are catching the eye and the toggle found a new home at the necklace. And they all lived happily ever after...

Bye-bye! Milwaukee is calling...

Ja, es ist wieder soweit: Am Wochenende beginnt die Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee. Und ich werde mich da eine ganze Woche rumtreiben, ha! Dieses Jahr gibt es für mich noch ganz besonderes Schmankerl: Jill Wiseman hat ja mit meiner Pitaya-Perle ein Collier entworfen und bei dem Kurs am Montag darf ich assistieren. Logisch, dass ich schon mal ein Muster geklöppelt habe!

This weekend is the start for the Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee. This year there is a special treat in for me: Jill Wiseman designed a wonderful necklace including my Pitaya beaded bead.  And on Monday I will asisst her in this class! For preps I made a sample in black and silver.

Fleur de Lys

Ich musste in letzter Zeit ein wenig im Geheimen rumfrickeln, aber jetzt darf ich offiziell Reklame machen. Yö, endlich!

I had to keep my secret for some weeks, but now I am allowed to reveal it. Yay!!
Der Anhänger "Fleur de Lys" ist mein Kursprojekt für die Perlen-Kunst-Messe 2011 in Hamburg, veranstaltet von Beaders Best. Hach, ich freu mich!

The pendant "Fleur de Lys" is my class project I will teach at Beaders Best Bead Art Fair 2011 in Hamburg. The class is in German, but I can provide some English, too :-)) Hope to see ya, folks!

Davida's Dream, extended version oder Manchmal wird es etwas länger

Hier noch ein Mitbringsel von der Bead & Button Show! Das Design ist von Amy Katz und heißt "Davida's Dream". Ok, ich hätte auch einfach von hier aus das Kit kaufen können, aber es ging ja auch darum, die Mädels mal persönlich kennenzulernen. Hat sich rentiert, Amy ist wirklich eine sehr nette Person (und eine sehr kompetente und geduldige Lehrerin)
Another souvenir from Bead & Button Show! This is "Davida's Dream" by Amy Katz. Ok, I could have bought the kit online, but the aim was to meet some of the teachers in person. I really enjoyed the class with Amy (and I must say, she is a very good and patient teacher!)


Davida's Dream ist ja eigentlich als Armspange konzipiert. Ich hatte noch einige Perlchen übrig und dann kurzerhand das Mittelteil verlängert, so dass es jetzt ein Halsreif im Torque-Stil ist.

Davida's Dream is meant to be a bracelet. But I had some beads left and decided to make a longer tube. So, ok, now it is a torque-style necklace. I love it!!

The Big Reveal!

Heilix Blechle! Ich bin echt geplättet!! Das gibt es doch nicht!!! Warum zwickt mich niemand? Träume ich?
Woow, I am floored!! Is anybody here to pinch me? Am I awake?

Heute wurden die Ergebnisse des "Use the Muse IV"-Wettbewerbs veröffentlicht. Es wurde in 4 Kategorien bewertet (Stringing, handmade Components, Embroidery, Beadweaving) und jetzt ratet mal, wer bei "beadweaving" einen 1. Preis gewonnen hat. Na? Wer? Moi!!! Jaa! Echt jetzt! Das ist so cool!!

Today was the big reveal of the "Use the Muse IV" contest. There were 4 categories (stringing, handmade components, embroidery and beadweaving). Now guess who won a 1st place at "beadweaving"?? Yesss!!! Me!! Really!

Hier könnt Ihr einen Blick auf die "Muse" werfen, das war der große Holzstern. Ich fand es im ersten Moment echt schwierig, mir ein Design einfallen zu lassen, das dann eben nicht nach Christbaumschmuck aussieht und trotzdem den Stern nicht komplett verdeckt. Außerdem ist das Ding ganz schön groß!

On this pic you can take a closer look at the "muse", the big wooden star. At first glance it was a little difficult for me to find a design that does not hide the star AND does not look like a christmas tree ornament. Plus the star is quite big.

Das ganze Geblümel und Gefranse ist mir echt schwergefallen, ich glaube, ich habe 3x wieder abgetrennt. Aber so kamen wenigstens einige meiner Keishis endlich mal ans Tageslicht.

All the fringework was the hardest part for me, I tried 3 times... At least I could use some of my keishis.

Der Mai ist gekommen...

... und hier geht erstmal ein heftiges Gewitter runter! Egal, jetzt ist endlich amtlich Frühling. Basta!

Lilapurpurne Heringsbohne mit siamesischem Brandy

Merkwürdiger Titel? Endgültig durchgeknallt? Gut möglich.
Ich bin anscheinend immer noch ein wenig high von dem Workshop letzte Woche bei Laura McCabe persönlich, life und in Farbe. Dieser Tag hat sich echt gelohnt!

Und sie hatte zufällig ein Kit genau in meinen Lieblingsfarben dabei. Die Rivolis in light siam brandy sind doch echt grandios, oder?
